Welcome to Career Chronicles.
We are a community of thinkers, game-changers and people who are ready to create a career they love.
We bring our A-game everywhere we go. We support our friends and peers, and call bullshit on people who push people down to look better at work.
We are part of a generation of go-getters, creative thinkers, social networkers and big dreamers, who hate being told that we have to follow the old rules, because “that’s how it’s always been done”.
Why are we here?
Because we realised that even the most passionate go-getter needs a little bit of extra career advice. In fact, we realised that our people are more likely to seek out this advice, because we are always looking to do things better.
Our purpose is to help you. Whether you want career advice, personal branding tips or ways to build your expertise, our focus is on creating practical resources and tips that you can act upon.
About Phoebe Vertigan
Hi there! Thanks for dropping by my little corner of the online world.
Career Chronicles was born from a career crisis. My career crisis, that is.
I can’t put my finger on the exact moment that my career crisis started. Like so many of my friends, I did the “done thing”: I went to Uni, got pretty good grades, got a good job… and so the story goes on.
Perhaps 20 years ago this good job would have been enough. I would have sat at my desk for 20 years, slowly working up the food chain. I would have probably been considered a success.
But it’s not 20 years ago, and I couldn’t think of anything worse than slowly doing my time in a job that, let’s be honest here, I completely hated. I felt stuck, but had no idea how to get myself back on track. I was stressed at work, and stressed by the thought of work. Something had to change.
I started my first blog, Making It Up, because I wanted to start writing again, and saw the opportunity to share what I was learning with my peers. I was truly making it up! I had no idea what I wanted to do, and threw myself into writing, networking, learning and social media to try and find my path.
I wanted to create a space that encouraged sharing knowledge, advice and inspiration – that brought young professionals up – instead of what I was witnessing at work (which was pretty much the opposite!). In a way, it was my little rebellion against the competition and distrust that I was witnessing at work.
These days, I have a new job and feel like I have my life back on track. Well, mostly – if you are anything like me you will always be looking for things to improve! Now I want to share everything that I have learned with you. If you ever find yourself stuck, I want you to know that there is always a way out – a better opportunity – waiting for you. You just need to know how to find it. This is why I am so committed to providing real advice. Because I know that when you are in the grips of a career crisis, you are going to need more than those handy hints on what to keep in your office drawer!
